Robert F. "Bob" Jordan, PE
Professional Biography
Bob Jordan has been in new product development as project engineer and management for 14 years, and has been an engineer for over 25 years. He is presently vice president of research and product development for an umbrella company acquiring and realigning manufacturing businesses. He was most recently vice president of engineering for a security industry equipment design and manufacturer. Before that he was engineering manager in the industrial equipment industry and was R&D Manager in the medical device and aerospace industries. He has held management roles and recruited staff for Fortune 40, medium sized, small sized, and start-up companies. His responsibilities have always been in the area of new product development, and he also has had responsibility for quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, and test.
A high-energy innovator and creator and implementer of systems, Mr. Jordan is co-founder of eNPIProcess.com, a web-based new product introduction Design for Six Sigma enterprise. Using this process he was able to take a young engineering staff and develop and released more major products in less time than ever before in his former company's 30-year history. These products have suffered no recalls or field design changes and contributed $2+M in new sales in its first year and $3+M in it second year of release. One product, a complex truck mounted power plant system has been commented by distributors nation-wide as the best in the history of the 30-year industry, for appearance, serviceability, functionality, performance, and price value. The design and project management of this successful product was entirely per the eNPI Process.
Bob has coached department leaders and trained organizations in program and project management as well as new product development working with Impact Washington (formerly Washington Manufacturing Services). He has also consulted on quality management systems and teaches statistical quality control in a manner that the student easily understands and can implement. Bob also teaches leadership, public speaking, management, people development, time management, and engineering systems, as well as a broad spectrum of technical subjects, including chemistry, math, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science, physics, statics and dynamics, and engineering economics.
A strategic thinker, Mr. Jordan is a key member of his current and former company’s strategic planning team, and was also a volunteer facilitator of strategic planning efforts at both a four-year college and a local prison ministry. Mr. Jordan is board chairman of an international non-profit organization and is a leader on its finance subcommittee. In industry he has been responsible for all company intellectual property activity, including initiating and reviewing patents, exclusives, and royalty agreements, and even recruiting patent counsel. He has successfully led engineering organizations in ISO-9000 and CE Certifications and is known for developing staff – both professionally and personally.
Mr. Jordan taught engineering and new product development for over 10 years at the college level. He holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and is also a degreed Chemical Technologist. He is a licensed professional mechanical engineer and holds twelve patents and has patents pending. He is trained in both Classical as well as Design for Six Sigma (Black Belt) and has trained and certified over 50 DFSS Green Belts. His greatest satisfaction comes from taking difficult subjects, breaking them down into bite-sized components, and clearly communicating these to people and watching "the lights go on" in their eyes. This means they understand the material and they have a vision for how to implement this new understanding to get successful results in their roles in the company.
