For All Current and Potential Catalyst Drama Members

Thank you for your interest in the ministry of Catalyst Drama. Catalyst is a ministry of Cedar Park Church in Bothell, WA. Catalyst ministers from after Easter through the Fall in a combination of venues, especially to churches (to encourage the saints), to prisons (for evangelism), and other para-church organizations (combination of evangelism and encouragement).

This survey below has 21 questions and should take about 15 minutes to complete. It will be automatically routed to the founder and director of Catalyst Drama, David Potter. He and the Catalyst Leadership Team will evaluate your survey results according to a weighted formula. This is necessary due to the rigors of the drama season and the special requirements that such a ministry requires of the cast and crew.

You are exhorted to be honest in your evaluation and evaluate your calling to a drama ministry. Areas deemed needing attention will be communicated to you and reasonable effort will be made to assist you in shoring up any deficiencies. Note that no one will receive a perfect, or even near perfect score; that's not the goal. But as a ministry team a synergy of abilities will be sought - so don't lose heart if you see any areas of lack. It takes all personalities and gifting to have a successful ministry! At the end of the survey you will have an opportunity to include comments.

21-Question Questionnaire

Note: Answer how you are today, not how you want to be or wish to be. Resist the impulse to score yourself based on intentions. Odds are the Catalyst Leadership Team (5-members) knows something about you. Perceived embellished answers will cast your entire survey into question. The strategy for having a successful season hinges on an honest assessment of the cast and crew. Everyone depends on the others - if someone cannot fulfill their obligations, the entire production may be at risk. Be honest!

1.) Available

Personal schedule allows for midweek and weekend ministry.

1 = I travel a lot, I have a lot of other commitments, my long term schedule is fluid.

5 = Infrequent business travel, would know in advance under most circumstances.

10 = I would always know two months in advance if I had a conflict.

2.) Good Health

Health and stamina allows for travel and multiple presentations in one day.

1 = I have medical issues that often prevent me from scheduled activities.

5 = If I pace myself and plan ahead there's no real problem. I take some prescription meds for health.

10 = My health is excellent. I can endure the rigors of ministry stress on top of everything else.

3.) Worship Minded

Worship is integral to personal walk; holiness and purity are priorities.

1 = I am new to all of this and need to be assisted in fundamental worship attitudes.

5 = I worship best with others but find individual worship times to be lacking though improving.

10 = Daily I'm involved in worship through music, disciplines, behavior, speech.

4.) Able to Travel

Personal schedule allows for travel overnight and up to 300 miles from home.

1 = I have no vehicle, cannot afford travel, and do not have the desire to travel.

5 = I can afford most of my travel but would need to ride with someone else.

10 = I can drive and finance my own travel, including lodging, fuel, meals, and have travel means.

5.) Drama Talent

Has the ability to memorize lines and develop their character.

1 = I am new to drama and/or have trouble with memorization.

5 = I have acted on occasions and can memorize lines but I'm not very creative when it comes to interpreting my character.

10 = I have well-developed drama talent and demonstratable experience and success in this arena.

6.) Pray

Regularly pray for the cast and crew and for the work of the ministry.

1 = I don't have the desire to pray for the cast, crew, or work of the ministry.

5 = I can, as the Lord leads, pray for the cast, crew, and work of the ministry.

10 = I have a well-developed prayer life and will commit to regular prayer for the cast, crew, ministry.

7.) Personal Presentation

Personal appearance, decorum, grooming is important in a drama ministry.

1 = I believe the Lord looks on the heart and therefore how I look is not important.

5 = I enjoy casual wear but am neat, organized, my clothes are ironed, match, and I shave often (men).

10 = I mainly dress well, am fit, groom daily, and am conscious of my appearance before others.

8.) Accountable

Do what you say and be open to input in areas of "blind spots."

1 = I believe the Lord is my counselor and I don't need input from anyone.

5 = I am open to input from those I know very well, I do what I say I'll do under most circumstances.

10 = I am open to input from ministry leaders; I do what I say and phone in if there's a conflict.

9.) Home In Order

A home out of order can disqualify anyone from ministry.

1 = My kids are in rebellion; my spouse and I argue often; our finances are in shambles.

5 = Kids and spouse support my involvement in ministry; I have a good balance between home/ministry.

10 = Kids are doing well; spousal and family obligations are met; we have a budget and live within it.

10.) Modern Communications

Using modern technology to communicate is efficient and is a time saver.

1 = I do not have a cell phone and I don't have access to email.

5 = I promptly answer messages on my home answering machine but I have sporadic access to email.

10 = I have and use a cell phone; I use email daily; I answer messages promptly by either method.

11.) Financially Established

Personal cash flow situation is solid; can finance personal ministry as needed.

1 = I am currently unemployed, am very much in debt, and this causes stress at home.

5 = I am employed but am still getting out of debt, my cash flow can support ministry involvement.

10 = I can easily support my ministry involvement without causing negative impact to my family's budget.

12.) Desires To Be On Team

Regularly seeks out leadership to be a part of the team; enthusiastic.

1 = If you want me you have to come to me.

5 = I would like to be on the team and learn more about drama ministry.

10 = I would love to be on the team! It would be my #1 ministry priority.

13.) Learns Lines On Time

Learning lines on time allows time for drama, acting, blocking, and precision.

1 = I cannot commit to this - too many things could get in the way.

5 = I would do what I could to learn the lines pretty well on time.

10 = I will have all my lines down word-perfect when the director says they needed to be ready.

14.) Punctual

Respects everyone else's time and shows it by being on time.

1 = I won't usually be more than 15 minutes late but it's OK with me if you begin without me.

5 = I don't consider being 5 - 10 minutes late as being "late." Let's not be too rigid about this.

10 = I will be early or on time, every time, because I'll plan ahead and leave myself a margin (or call if I'll be late).

15.) Emotional Stability

Doesn't require a lot of emotional support.

1 = I really need structure and order; I tend to get stressed when plans change at the last moment.

5 = I'm reasonable in my emotions and will take any issues I have to the leadership only.

10 = I don't get phased at last-minute changes nor need special attention to feel appreciated.

16.) Follow The Leader

Has the ability to follow even though they themselves are leaders in other arenas.

1 = I have been told that I don't follow directions well, but am open to help in this area.

5 = I can take direction without taking it personally or getting offended.

10 = I can lead and I can and will follow. I'm very clear that there's only one leader.

17.) Will Go Into Prisons

Ability to go into maximum security prisons and juvenile institutions.

1 = I do not want to go into prisons. It could be dangerous and I can't risk it.

5 = I am uneasy about going into a prison but will keep an open mind about it.

10 = I am very willing to go into prison to present an evangelical message through drama.

18.) Faithful Walk

Have been shown faithful in personal walk with Christ; strong testimony.

1 = I struggle with areas of sin, some obvious and some not. I haven't gotten the victory in key areas.

5 = I know there are a few areas that need attention, but I generally live according to Christian principles.

10 = I am careful of what I look at, listen to, say, and do, in the interest of holiness. My conscious is clear.

19.) Team Player

Willing to do what it takes to advance the ministry, even when inconvenient.

1 = I'll act in plays, but that's all I have time for.

5 = I can help out sometime but not all of the time. Ask me, but ask others first please.

10 =I have talents in other areas (music, administration, helps) and will make myself available as needed.

20.) Ministry Minded

The focus of Catalyst Drama is ministry; drama, fun, other objectives are secondary.

1 = I want recognition. I want to feel important. Ministry to me is personal therapy.

5 = I like the idea of ministry, but I really like drama, worship, and fellowship above all else.

10 = My heartbeat is winning souls, encouraging the saints and advancing God's kingdom.

21.) Ownership

Sees this as their ministry; they aren't just helping out the leaders.

1 = I'm happy to assist Catalyst in their ministry. Of course, if something interferes you have to cover for me.

5 = This is a ministry that I believe I can make my own, but I need assistance, training, and guidance.

10 = This is my ministry, and Catalyst provides a vehicle and structure for me to use my gifts in my ministry.
