This Fall eight American Prisoners For Christ Outreach Ministries missionaries departedfor a short term missions trip to the prisons of three countries, The Democratic Republic of The Congo, Burundi, and Rwanda. We flew into and out of Kenya (but no specific ministry will be conducted there) with a stop over both ways in Amsterdam, Holland.

The missionary team had been established as of January, 2008. A photograph and biography of the missionary team is here.

In 2006 I was privileged to be a part of a team to these three countries; this year I had the privileged of co-leading a team to these three countries.

Here are the goals we set out with:

  1. Train local PFC missionaries in jail and prison practices through formal seminar classroom instruction. This is planned to take place in the Congo this trip. DONE

  2. Visit 11 prisons in all three countries, holding evangelistic campaigns. DONE

  3. Bringing humanitarian aid to all prisons we attend in the form of bags of rice, beans, and other foodstuffs, plus boxes of soap. For native country PFC volunteers we will bring vitamins. DONE

  4. Strengthening ministry fellowship ties with our brothers and sisters in all of these countries. DONE

  5. Providing opportunity for all American missionaries to teach in the seminars, share testimony in the prisons, minister in prayer to men, women, and children inmates, participate in the carrying out of the in-prison services, thereby stretching our own faith as we believe God for specifics of what to say and do. DONE

  6. Blessing and being blessed by attending Sunday church services with our native hosts in their home churches. DONE

  7. Hold three separate Encouragement Sessions in the evenings to bless the wider body of Christ in our volunteer network. DONE

  8. Provide gifts to the Christian nationals and their families, including clothes, radios, soccer balls, shoes, candies, and assorted useful items hard to come by in these countries. DONE

In 2006 in Central Africa I shared my testimony and preached to thousands of inmates, and with the volunteers we have in Africa I taught many fundamentals of prison ministry (three different groups in three countries). This experience will be repeated for all of our missionaries. In all we ministered to 6,511 inmates, with 2,209 making a first-time commitment to Christ!

The expenses per person was an astounding $4,600! This included travel (planes, busses, vans where fuel costs are at an all time high), meals, lodging, and the purchase of much humanitarian aid on-site for use in the prisons, as well as Bibles for prisoners. Fuel prices (Airlines as well as ground transportation - we travel 750 miles on the ground on this trip), food costs, just about everything has gone up dramatically. The already weak economies of our host countries are strained all the more in the present environment that is even impacting the United States of America.

Tax-deductible donations for the mission to Africa can still be made directly to Prisoners For Christ, PO Box 1530, Woodinville, WA 98072-1530. It can also be done on-line at https://www.servicenetwork.com/olg/pfc/Donate.asp. The pull-down menu has the names of each team member. The donation will be used for work in Africa!
